This pocketbook has been created for individuals working within the education sector and those working with young people.
It is intended to offer teachers, senior leaders, lecturers and support staff guidance in challenging discriminatory language/ behaviours by raising awareness of the importance of inclusive workplace/learning environments by putting in place policies, processes, procedures, practices and people (the 5 Ps).
A proactive and inclusive approach using the 5 Ps as a foundation will help learning providers to prevent or reduce the number of discriminatory remarks/ behaviours that occur. Should they occur, this Pocket Book offers guidance on how to challenge learners whilst maintaining positive professional relationships. The key throughout is to include young people at every opportunity in order that they develop the skills they need to become fair, responsible and respectful members of society.
