To help combat the lack of career progression, employees from
ethnically diverse backgrounds need mentors that look like them

to have progressed within their organisation before them. One

individual told our team that, “Every day I would beat my sales
targets and I would be met with a look of frustration and given

more work to do, whilst my white colleagues would do the bare

minimum and get all the praise in the world.” Situations like

these can easily be alleviated if there were more ethnically

diverse leaders to balance the workplace.

Here are a few tips to better recruit ethnically diverse leaders:

                    • Understand your up-to-date data and demography to

                       analyse gaps

                    • Introduce more equality, diversity, and inclusion training

for all staff to engage with

                    • Review current recruitment process to ensure that you

are recruiting and retaining ethnically diverse staff

                    • Build mentorship programmes to allow ethnically diverse

professionals to build relationships with each other
