Appropriate use of Terminology

Timings: 15 minutes Delivery:

• Display the following terms around the room,

• BLACK, COLOURED, ETHNICS, ETHNIC MINORITY GROUP, ASIAN,

HALF CASTE, WEST INDIAN, AFRICAN CARIBBEAN, BLACK ASIAN

AND MINORITY ETHNIC (BAME), GYPSY along with a blank sheet of

paper.

• Ask participants to move around the room reading the terms and to

write either ‘ACCEPTABLE’ or ‘UNACCEPTABLE’ on the blank sheets

of paper. Ask each member to fold the paper over to conceal their

answers, this will encourage honesty and objectivity, and will ensure

people’s opinions are not influenced by others.

• Reveal the groups answers and facilitate a discussion
