Why do we Need Anti-Racist Training?
There is a legal, moral, and business case explaining why we need
anti-racist training, policies, processes, procedures, practices, and
people development within the workplace.
Firstly, racial discrimination is illegal in the UK. The Equality Act
2010 protects individuals in employment from discrimination,
victimisation, harassment, or any other detriment based on a
number of protected characteristics: disability, gender
reassignment, marriage/civil partnership, pregnancy/maternity,
race, religion/belief, sexual orientation, sex, and age.
Secondly, organisations need to develop inclusive workspaces in
order to fully utilise their talent pool. Diversity in the workplace
means the acceptance and inclusion of employees of all
backgrounds.
A diverse workplace is an important asset since it acknowledges
the individual strengths of each employee and the potential they
bring.
Valuing the differences of others is what ultimately brings us all
together and can be the secret to a successful, thriving workplace
and a fair work culture.
It’s important to recognise the types of diversity and to provide
ways to ensure that you as the employer, or employee are
contributing toward a more diverse and inclusive workplace.
The success of having an inclusive and diverse workforce will
create an efficient and healthy environment.
