Page 4 - Race Equality in Education Pocket Book
P. 4
Foreword
The demands on learning providers to ensure their services are
accessible to all, and that they provide necessary culturally sensitive
services where needed, are substantial.
Equality legislation is comprehensive, and it is easy for the most
committed and diligent organisation to fall foul of the law. The idea
of a Race Equality Pocket Book to support practitioners is an
excellent one that goes further than just complying with legislation
but also looks at hearts and minds
It’s not such an easy task to provide such a Pocket Book to support
education providers and employers but the authors have done a
remarkable job. The result is a useful toolkit that is comprehensive,
but clear. It is particularly useful as a personal aid for staff and
managers.
All education provider staff and employers should want to ensure
their own practice is the best it can possibly be. The law and
legislation should not be the only driver for race equality in
education and work. Drivers should include the desire to develop an
organisation whose culture has race equality at it’s core. Excellence
in race equality should be a given; part of everyone’s working brief
The Race Equality Pocket Book is an excellent guide, and importantly
a reminder of what is required by law and good practice.
Education providers/employers should ensure that this Pocket Book
is widely available. Practitioners should have a copy of the race
Equality pocket Book in their bag, it’s a tool that can help you
develop your policies, processes, procedures practice and people.
