This Race Equality Pocket book focuses on helping you to:

Raise your awareness of the current climate around race equality in
the education sector and the workplace

Explore good and developing practice and offer advice and

guidance on embedding effective practice around race equality in
            your everyday practice

Identify the competencies you currently hold and those that you
still require to develop around the race equality agenda

As members of the education system we should be committed to
pursuing the universal principle of justice and the equal worth of

individuals. As individuals, we all want to work and learn in an

environment where we are respected for who we are; where we
are treated with fairness, and where our diverse needs are met, so

that we can contribute to the best of our abilities.

What is the Race Equality Pocket Book?

The Race Equality Pocket Book is an information, practice and advice

Pocket Book covering both mandatory rules and best practice for the
education sector as service providers and as an employer in England,

            Scotland and Wales.

The objectives of the Race Equality Pocket Book are to help

learning and skills providers to promote racial equality, tackle all

forms of racial discrimination and foster good race relationships
between diverse groups of staff and learners.

It applies to policies, processes and procedures as well as everyday
            practices.

It provides a handy memory jogger to remind staff of what they are
required to do by law and a checklist of actions to ensure

compliance. It should complement and reinforce your organisation’s

race equality training, not replace it.
