In-house microaggressions training to help staff recognise subtle exclusion, communicate respectfully and support inclusive workplace culture.
Microaggressions may seem small, but their impact can be profound — affecting confidence, wellbeing and a sense of belonging. This course helps delegates recognise subtle acts of exclusion, understand why they occur and explore the lived experiences of those affected. Through reflective discussion and practical strategies, participants learn how to communicate respectfully, challenge harmful behaviour and create environments where everyone feels safe and valued. It’s a powerful session that builds awareness, empathy and everyday inclusion.
In‑house courses are private sessions delivered exclusively for a group of people from your organisation, on a date that suits you, with the option to tailor the content to your staff and setting.
Open courses are public Equality and Diversity UK training dates that anyone can book onto, ideal when you only need training for one or two people.
This course encourages delegates to learn about microaggressions and what causes them to occur, explore their impact on our interactions with others and increase our awareness of strategies to manage and reduce them.
Definition of microaggressions
“A small act or remark that makes someone feel insulted or treated badly because of their race, sex, etc., even though the insult, etc. may not have been intended, and that can combine with other similar acts or remarks over time to cause emotional harm.“
Cambridge Dictionary
Microaggressions are an example of subtle, indirect discrimination against marginalised groups. They are small acts of prejudice which expose the speaker’s biases and can have negative repercussions on the lives of the recipients.
Microaggressions may not feel significant at the time. They are commonplace interactions that can’t always be readily identified as prejudice. This ambiguity puts the person who is on the receiving end of microaggressions in a tricky position as speaking out may be perceived as 'overreacting'.
Feelings of powerlessness can result which can be compounded in the workplace where speaking out may hurt one's reputation.
During this half day course, delegates learn about the impact of microaggressions on our interactions with others and increase their awareness to manage and reduce them in the workplace.
