Case Study
During an exchange between Polish employee and white British
manager, the manager exclaimed, “‘If you do not like it, pack
yourself and your family up and go back to Poland”. This
argument took place after the employee asked his manager if he
could work the same shift as his daughter. He wanted to ensure
that she got home safely. Unfortunately, the manager refused.
Is this racism?
Yes.
Why would this incident be a case of racial discrimination?
This would not be said to a British employee. This is racial
discrimination.
What should this organisation do?
The organisation should review their policy to determine the next
course of action. This employee should be able to report this
behaviour with confidence that there will be disciplinary results.
This incident should be properly recorded for future references.
All staff within this company should take diversity training
courses to ensure that this behaviour does not continue.
