An Assessment Tool for Measuring Racism
It can be difficult to know where to start or continue the journey
in addressing equality, diversity, and inclusion.
One assessment tool that can be used to understand how racism
operates in an organisation would be to do an audit from an
external source.
An audit should assess company data, policies, processes,
responsibilities, and other areas. This can help to better
understand the demographics and culture of a workplace.
Alongside this, an audit should allow an organisation to:
• Determine if they are compliant with equality legislation
• Identify their fundamental priorities
• Understand their gaps
• Plan their next steps
• Highlight their best practices
Different activities can be done to support this audit like:
• Equality Impact Assessments
• Staff/management EDI surveys
• Diversity Research
• Pay Gap Analysis
• Staff Affinity forums
By understanding these factors, it will be easier to understand
how to continue development through better strategies and
business decisions. Refining diversity strategies will better allow
you to understand your organisation’s strengths, weaknesses,
opportunities, and threats (S.W.O.T).
