Learning environment/classroom practice
Promoting equality and diversity in the learning environment/
classroom need not be a challenge and is something that all learner
should be familiar with from the beginning. This means:
• Setting clear rules in regard to how people should be
treated/respected.
• Challenging any negative attitudes.
• Treating all staff and learners fairly, equally and according to
their diverse needs.
• Creating an all-inclusive culture for staff, learners, visitors and
service users.
• Avoiding stereotypes in examples, materials and resources.
• Using resources which match and fit intersectionality themes.
• Actively promoting EDI in lessons, briefings, presentation,
speeches etc.
• Planning lessons that reflect the diversity of society,
communities and classroom.
• Ensuring all learners have equal access to opportunities and
participation regardless of their background, lifestyles,
disability, ability skin colour, gender, age etc.
• Making sure that learning materials do not discriminate against
anyone and are adapted where necessary, e.g. large print or
audio tape format.
• Using a diverse range of teaching/learning methods.
• Using a diverse range of assessment methods.
• Ensuring policies, processes, procedures practices and people
don’t discriminate against anyone.
