Thinking out loud

In shadows cast by hate’s grim dance,

               Violence surges, taking stance.

Deep-rooted strife, we must not flee,
For justice, we must all agree.

Our elders faced this pain and fight,

Their struggles live in our dark night.

               Communities in fear, in pain,
               As far-right fires rise again.

To friends and colleagues, don’t despair,

               Muslims, and those caught unaware.
This isn’t just a thuggish phase,

But racist acts in modern days.

State-fed hate and years of blame,
               Economics hide in shame.

Yet innocent people feel the heat,

               As politicians shift their seat.

               Our workplaces, society’s face,
Where justice must begin with grace.

               Leaders, listen, make the change,

Create a culture, wide and strange.

Support with mental health in mind,

Flexible work, time off to find.

               Acknowledge fear, make safety real,
No travel forced if fear they feel.
