Deaf people have needs too.

I read a story tonight from someone experiencing Covid signs.

I read it with a heaving heart as the story blew my mind.
It’s scary going to the doctor. not knowing if you have the bug.

It is difficult enough being alone with no hand to hold or a hug.

But if you are deaf, it’s scarier sll

Being shouted at with a mask on when you are scared, alone and ill.

How could she lip read when the nurse is wearing a mask?

The surgery should know beter and for this be taken to task.

Deaf people should not be shouted at - this doesn’t make them hear.
Interpreters should be on hand to ensure what is said is clear.

Please consider the needs, please treat people with care.

Ask if you are uncertain and ensure all staff are aware.

Aware of communicaon issues, aware of how to act.

Build the trust of the paent to ensure your message is on track.

She says, when she is beter, she will tell you how you made her feel.

She will share her complaints with you when she’s had me to heal.
