Living in fear

A week of fear, where truth was missed,

Flames of hate fanned by whispered lies,

A nation watched as the darkness thrived.

In streets where fear took ruthless form,

Shops shattered, hopes battered by storm,
A torch to the library, a blow to our mind,

And refugees hunted by those so blind.

But in the heart of this troubled isle,

               Where hatred sought to defile,

A stronger force began to rise,
A truth that no fear could disguise.

               Roles emerged, some to incite,

With rhetoric of fire, fuelling the night,

But others stood, with hands held high,

Rejecting the call to divide and deny.
The doctor, the teacher, the neighbour, the friend,

               Came together to defend,

In a chorus of voices, clear and strong,

               Proving hate’s narrative wrong.

For every window smashed in rage,
A hundred voices turned the page,

Refusing to let the darkness win,

Demanding a new tale to begin.

They marched in the streets, arms linked tight,

A beacon of hope, a burning light,
Against the storm that threatened to drown,

They stood, refusing to back down.
