Encouraging young people parents/carers to report it

Speaking up when you have felt harmed can be a difficult

process for some. That is why the process to report racist

behaviour must be accessible, simple, and effective. Staff and

students must understand the procedures in place to direct
victims to the correct person that handles reports.

               Confidentiality

The dictionary definition of confidential is ‘something which

is spoken or given in confidence; private, entrusted with
               another’s secret affairs.’

It is important for schools to have an established procedure
when they are dealing with confidentiality. It must be

understood by the pupils, the workforce, families, and

visitors when there needs to be a response to crisis.

Instead of having a procedure established when they occur, it

is important that the procedures implemented by schools are

               consistent for every student.

Alongside this, it is important to highlight that not every staff

member within a school will have the same level of
confidentiality. So, steps have to be taken to ensure that

issues made in confidence are reported and submitted to the

               correct individual within the school.

The Equality Act 2010 states that when employers are writing

confidential agreements for staff, it should be clearly written

what workers can or cannot do when discussing confidential
information. And the agreement should not stop them from

speaking about any forms of discrimination.
