As shown above, a strong policy is able to be a reference that
everyone within an organisation is able to look back on and have

an idea on what they can do moving forward. Whether it be to

understand the values of the company or how to report racist
behaviour, it should provide a starting point for all staff and

            students to understand.

If an organisation develops and consciously promotes their

equality and diversity strategies, then they are identifying that
their organisations are not perfect and there needs to be systems

in place to ensure that every ethnic individual is able to work and

learn in a supportive environment. Providing training and open
forums for both pupils and staff within a school can allow for

open communication on racial prejudice and racism within the

            education sector.

            What is anti-racism?

Anti-racism refers to a form of action against racial hatred, bias,

systemic racism, and the oppression of marginalized groups. Anti-
racism is usually structured around conscious efforts and

deliberate actions to provide equitable opportunities for all

people on an individual and systemic level.

Many people use the phrase “I am not racist” when discussing
matters of race and racial inequality. However, it is not enough to

say you are not racist, we all must actively be anti-racist. We all

have unconscious bias that is influenced by race and systemic
racism. Believing that you do not have hidden biases, gives the

false sense that you are not a part of the problem.

Based on a YouGov survey of what the British public thought was

racist or not racist, here are a few statistics that demonstrate
            unconscious bias:
