The EDI Race Equality Pocket book for managing EDI at

work and in the learning environment

This additional part of the Race Equality Pocket book is for managers

and leaders who have responsibility for promoting race equality,

diversity and inclusion within the organisation. You can use the
bullet points as tick-boxes to help you identify those competencies

that you already have and which you need to develop.

 Identify what your organisation’s and your own responsibilities
and liabilities are under race equality law.

 Gain genuine management commitment that racial equality will
underpin your organisation’s vision, values, objectives and

                   plans.

 Collect race equality data to develop equality profiles of your

                   workforce and learners.

 Review the diversity and race equality needs of current and

potential learners and identify areas where needs are not
being met and/or learner diversity could be improved.

 Review the diversity/needs of your workforce at all levels

compared with the local population and the race diversity of

current and potential learners and identify areas for
                   improvement.

 Report on this race equality data annually and publish it in a

                   form the public can access.

 Ensure the organisation has a written equality, diversity and

inclusion policy (including anti-racist-bullying) and that it is

clearly communicated to all staff and learners.

 Identify and engage appropriate people (internally and

externally) to help you promote race equality within your

                   organisation to staff and learners.
