Change comes by telling the story
In England's annals, a harrowing tale,
Of slavery's grasp, where hope grew pale.
Black bodies bought, sold, and defiled,
Their spirits crushed; their dreams exiled.
Denied their names, their heritage stripped,
Their stories silenced; their history clipped.
Educaon withheld, a deliberate snare,
To keep them down, in a world unfair.
Even as chains broke, and freedom sung,
The echoes of prejudice sll clung.
Overt racism, a venomous creed,
Denying rights, neglecng their need.
In every realm, from job to school,
The legacy of bias remains cruel.
Segregaon's shadow, though less stark,
Sll darkens lives, leaves lasng marks.
Housing, jobs, leadership denied,
Their aspiraons unfairly defied.
A system rigged, where privilege reigns,
And equality's promise remains in chains.
But change must dawn, it's long overdue,
In 2024, the call rings true.
To reckon with history's darkest stains,
And forge a future where jusce reigns.
Acknowledge the past, with courage and grace,
And build a world where all find their place.
Inclusion, equity, the paths we tread,
To honour the living and mourn the dead.
