If an organisation develops and consciously promotes their
equality and diversity strategies, then they are identifying
that their organisations are not perfect and there needs to be
systems in place to ensure that every ethnic individual is able
to work and learn in a supportive environment. Providing
training and open forums for both students and staff within a
school can allow for open communication on racial prejudice
and racism within the education sector.
Involving children and young people and connecting with
ethnically diverse communities
Allowing students to become involved in local communities
can all them to connect with ethnically diverse individuals.
Not only does this allow them to develop life skills and social
awareness, by volunteering and doing outreach work
students will have the great opportunity to immerse
themselves in activities that are usually outside of their
comfort zone.
Outside of the valuable experience that students can achieve
from connecting with ethnically diverse communities,
students are able to develop employable skills. Showing a
sense of responsibility, selflessness, and respect for others
within their community, students are gaining qualities that
benefit their entirety of society.
Creating visually inclusive learning environments
When attempting to create a visually inclusive learning
environment, schools should demonstrate diversity though
their website, brochures, and other marketing materials.
