Aims of the course

  • The training offers an opportunity to look at the importance of culture and customs.
  • It includes valuable personal insights as well as practical tools and ideas that can help empower foster carers to nurture a positive self identity in the BME children in their care.
  • There is also an opportunity to reflect on an individual's values and beliefs and to gain a better understanding of racism and discrimination and how these impact on learning and development
  • This course discusses the unique characteristics of communicating across cultural lines.
  • It also discusses various cultural perspectives, and the skills and abilities needed to address them in the home and community.

Previous Knowledge Required

The good news is that no prior learning knowledge or experience is essential to take this course. This course is openly available to anyone wishing to learn more about race, culture and customs of ethnically diverse children and young people, and would like to take part in a highly rewarding interactive and participative course.

This is a face-to-face course taught by experienced professionals. It offers a range of methods to help participants develop both skills and knowledge. These include direct formal input, small and large group discussions and exercises and case study material.

Courses run via Zoom, recommended maximum 10 delegates per session - up to 15 if required
Face to Face courses: maximum 20 delegates per session
